Silver Diamond

A road between Maçka Park and the apartment blocks of Nişantaşı. Neither a park nor a city.  In fact, it is greener than huge forests, more urban than the biggest metropolises. They walked side by side on that narrow pavement for a while, then Ses entered her house. The man continued walking. In this first encounter on earth, they did not recognise each other.

Then, by coincidence, not even three months later, they met at a weekend event in that village on the slope of the great mountain. And a village is a red cherry place. A still green place. A high place full of olives. An oasis where the trees always talk. Birds, birds, birds. Tumbling bushes. A stream with diminishing flow. Mostly adobe houses. Small tidy gardens. A narrow, uphill street.  I must say, a very nervous dog.

A tall, fair-skinned woman with long hair. A calm person walking with quick steps. Her mind is always confused though. She carries her bag in her hand, the handle of which broke off the day they bumped into each other in Nişantaşı. She has a hard time, but she likes to carry it like this, as if it gives her a different air.

The man, on the other hand, is very sure of himself. He knows everything. He knows enough to teach everyone. He will teach Ses the most. He will take it as his duty. Did anyone even ask?

Village again, first encounter. A huge fire in the square, visible even from space.  The fire was so hot, the colours so beautiful, that the hearts of everyone around it lit up warmly. In that dark night when huge flames and blue red shadows surrounded and illuminated the faces of the two of them, they looked at each other among hundreds of people and smiled at each other. God, what a miracle!

The moon suddenly appeared in the sky. A huge moon smiling brightly, of course with its usual sadness. It descended so majestically that its light fell on the earth, the fire went out out of respect. In the pitch darkness, there was now a huge illuminated path from Ses’s feet to the sky. When he looked up, he suddenly remembered that moment. Life does not consist of the soil he steps on, the place he looks at. There are other paths, another dimension. There is the sky!

Istanbul again, a house in Kadıköy. To feed the fire inside Adam, Ses always has to carry firewood. Huge firewood. Because that fire was very hungry, it got hungrier and hungrier. After Ses met him, she would get very tired of trying to catch up with him, running with water to the fire when she grew up a lot.

When the voice saw its own face in the mirror one morning, it realised that while trying to catch up with someone else’s fire, not even ashes would remain in itself. His voice had already become smaller and smaller, to make room for the man’s fire, maybe, he said, so that it wouldn’t burn me.

In that house in Kadıköy, in these coordinates of the earth, both the voice and the man were alone like huge trees, but their loneliness was mute, they had no language. Their wishes spoke for a long time, and also their complaints. Emotions never came up.

However, when they were born, there was a silver essence in the hearts of both of them, refreshing the heart with its coolness, guiding you even in the darkest night with its brightness, and if you lose your way, it will take you all the way home. Since no one taught them to look for it, they were afraid and hid it in a box at home, it had been so long that they forgot where it was. He resented it, changed dimension and moved to another universe. Who knows where it was? Ses’s life had always been spent looking for him.

While the two of them were caught in an apocalypse in the middle of that big hall in Kadıköy, Ses didn’t want to carry water to that fire anymore.  But it hurt both of them a lot. While their hearts were burning with pain, wouldn’t that silver treasure give relief now?

While the apocalypse was raging between the two of them, suddenly the moon rose from the big window of the hall, and that silver path floated to Ses’s feet again with all its light: s:

– Oh, big moon, is it you?

– I always come

– But, but would you come down to earth?

– I’m everywhere.

– It’s the first time you’ve ever taken my eyes.

– You’re lifting your head for the first time

– It’s the first time you’ve shone so bright

– This is the first time you’ve turned your face to me

– I feel like I know you…

– Don’t you ever know what’s inside you?
